Windsurfing: La Franqui-France Wind Direction: nw Wind Stength: 20/30 Surf / Sea State: flat Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny Max Speed: 36.80 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 22 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Another top night in our spot overlooking the salt beds, relaxing read and
breakfast before setting off on the left path up the hill. Then down to the
little fishing harbour on the Etang de I’Ayrolie before setting off for
La Franqui. We went the back way towards Narbonne passing flooded fields
that looked like rice!!!! Seeing some interesting birds before crossing
the Canal Robine past the lovely Bages to Peyriac-de-Mer arriving at my
favourite speed spot just above La Franqui by the wooden jetty just in time
for dinner :) I nearly got stuck in the sand and had to slowly reverse out
parking about a hundred metres from the sea. I checked out the course after
last year’s storm damage and it seemed deep enough to sail As
the only other windsurfer was a free rider with about 5m gear choice was a
problem ??? The wind seemed a bit up and down gusting over 30 kts !!! so I
thought I would start with the big board with 5.8 and a 30 cm fin to check
out the course. I took it easy the first run as it looked shallow in places
but didn’t hit the bottom once in well over a mile!!!!! The 5.8 was a bit
small really in the gusty wind but I was making it up wind okay but if you
sailed to far past the jetty then the wind was full of holes cut still
manage a 35 max and the water was nice and flat – a good speed sailor
would have made 40 kts easily!!! Then several cars turned up, parked right
by the sea – that’s four wheel drives for you and I had to share the
strip with seven kiters !!!! Mag walked along way down the beach with the
camera :) but I decided to go back to the van and rig the 6.4 as the wind
seemed to be dropping. All the kiters disappeared after an hour or so, must
have been a lunch time session :) The wind was patchy now but managed to up
my max to 36.7 the fastest I have been on my Falcon 90 :) I then called it
a day at 4:30 and had to struggle to get the boards tried on the roof and
headed for a supermarket at Port-la- Nouvelle.
We then continued back to the lovely Peyriac-de-Mer parked on the side of
the Etang and had the most wonderful walk right around the Etang much of it
on wooden walkways over the water :)up the hill opposite with great views
of the town with lots of flamingos feeding. Then we parked up in a
sheltered spot just outside Peyriac by a small Etang had another duck
dinner and watch a nice sunset!!!
Had texts from speed buddy Peter Cutts who said he is on the way – hope
there is some wind left when he gets here and my sons Rob who says same
forecast as today :)and Dan who said our old cat caught a pigeon, the
fastest she has moved in years!!!!
